Mr. Timothy Wanyonyi

Timothy Wanyonyi is a consultant Editor with nearly 30 years of experience in the Kenyan media. He worked at the Nation Media Group (NMG) for 24 years rising to the positions of Managing Editor and Head of Content.
He retired in 2018 and went into editorial consulting and training. He is a director at Afrique Consult Ltd, an editing, design and production consultancy whose clients include government ministries, agencies and international organisations such as the International Labour Organization. He has also worked as a part-time journalism trainer at The Aga Khan University Graduate School of Media and Communications.
He is an apiarist and is passionate about environmental issues. In 2020, he was a columnist for the ‘’Saturday Nation’’ on agroforestry.
He has also been a contributor to ‘’The Natural Resources Crime Brief’’, a weekly online publication of the Global Financial Integrity (GFI).
This is a Washington, D.C.-based think-tank that analyses illicit financial flows and illicit trade, including of endangered trees and works with civil society partners and advises governments on effective policy solutions.
He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Sciences with specialisation in Publishing from Moi University and a postgraduate qualification in Media Studies from the Golda Meir Mount Carmel Institute, Haifa, Israel.
He is a member of the Kenya Editors’ Guild and founding editor of the ‘’Kenya Journalism Review’’, its quarterly publication whose mission is promoting media freedom, credibility and professionalism.
He served on the board of regulator Media Council of Kenya between 2019 and 2022.
