Mr. Maricus Agutu

Maricus Agutu is a consummate communication practitioner, with a wealth of work experience spanning the private and public sectors. A media practitioner of long-standing, Mr Agutu has worked as a journalist for over 20 years, rising from a lower-rung writer to a section editor at Daily Nation in Kenya. After a fruitful stint in the private sector, Mr Agutu moved to the public service and has held high level positions in the communication docket at the County Government level and in the Senate of the Republic of Kenya. A media trainer and communication consultant, Mr Agutu has worked as a part-time lecturer in Communication and Media Studies at the Nairobi Campus of Moi University and edited countless publications for State and non-State organisations. Widely travelled and exposed, Mr Agutu holds an MA in Communication and Media Studies (University of Nairobi), a BA in English and Sociology (Egerton University) and is currently a PhD student in the field of communication at Moi University. Mr Agutu is passionate about Climate Change and Climate Action, and is deeply involved in research, compilation of reports and speech writing for high profile government officials on this subject matter. Arising from this deep experience, passion and in his capacity as a member of the Kenya Editors Guild (KEG), Mr Agutu is not only well versed with trends in the media and communication landscapes in Kenya, but has also harnessed it to build a formidable network portfolio, that has been instrumental in linking Green Communication Institute with individuals and organisations – local and international – that are active in the Climate Space. This has been a great leverage for raising the profile of Green Communication Institute, deservedly projecting it as a key player in this unique niche.
