The Green Communication Institute (GCI), a Kenyan registered non-governmental organisation that champions climate communication, research, advocacy, and capacity-building, has reached a key milestone after officially becoming a member of the Kenya Platform for Climate Governance (KPCG).
KPCG, the local national arm of the Nairobi-based Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA), brings together all civil society organisations advocating for Climate Justice policies and locally-led climate actions across Kenya.
PACJA is a consortium of more than 2000 organisations from 54 African countries that brings together a diverse membership drawn from grassroots, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, non-governmental organizations, trusts, foundations, indigenous communities, farmers and pastoralist groups with a shared vision to advance a people-centred, right-based, just and inclusive approach to address climate and environmental challenges facing humanity and the planet.
PACJA advances fair, equitable, ecologically just, and locally led climate action.
As a member of KPCG, the Green Communication Institute stands to leverage KPCG’s extensive national network and PACJA’s global brand to enhance its involvement in the climate space through strategic partnerships and collaborations.
The membership was conferred on the Green Communication Institute and several other CSOs, all of which champion climate action across the country, during a colourful two-day KPCG Special Members’ General Meeting held at the Rainbow Ruiru Resort in Thika, Kiambu County, Kenya, from September 24th to 26th, 2025.
KPCG National Coordinator, Ms. Faith Ngige, led a team from the KPCG secretariat and PACJA in awarding the certificates to the new member organisations and conferring all the attendant honours.
Receiving the membership certificate, GCI Executive Director Mr. Maricus Agutu termed the award of membership a watershed moment for GCI, strategically positioning it for more robust engagement in climate action across the country.
“KPCG is a champion of climate justice and climate in our country. As a member of this dynamic and focused platform, GCI is now well positioned to escalate its participation in the climate space in Kenya and execution of its mission of helping address environmental challenges, fostering sustainable development, and empowering communities for a resilient, prosperous future,” said Mr Agutu.
Ms. Ngige described the occasion as a key development and an excellent milestone for KPCG members, which would, in the long term, add impetus to their participation in climate action – both individually and as a unified family.
“The official conferment and installation of our members and adoption of key governance instruments of membership, alongside a renewed commitment to climate justice and sustainable development for Kenya and beyond, is a dream come true.
‎‎I couldn’t be prouder of the steps we have taken in laying such a strong foundation. We are now, more than ever, one big family united in the fight against climate change and transformative action. Forwards and upwards is the mantra. Congratulations to all our members,” said Ms Ngige.
